The Gentleman behind UAE’s favorite classic tailoring house
tells us how he refined his own style and shoes.

The United Arab Emirates is a place-cum-affluents’-paradise characterized by superlatives, where accolades like “tallest, biggest, and most expensive” aren’t hyperbole but reality.
Look a little closer, and you’ll find surprising nature, a growing arts scene, and food from practically everywhere on the planet—the UAE lays claim to being home to 200 nationalities.
In the bustling heart of the Middle Eastern business hub, the air is thick with prosperity, and so is the taste of its residents.
They are easily satisfied with the best, whether it’s the charming bungalow they call home, the wheels they navigate, the cuisine they savor, or, above all, the fits they dress.
Artistry must be displayed on an almost unimaginable scale if one is aspiring to enchant the esteemed residents of the UAE. In The House of Parmar, however, such a level of artistry comes standard.
With a prestigious heritage dating back to the mid-19th century, it is a tailoring house that doesn’t have to adapt to the conditions as they have strayed along with them.
With ambition and tailoring skills inherited from the elder brother in Mumbai—in 1956, Mr. Pitamber Parmar set up an atelier in the Bastakiya district of Dubai.
This pivotal creation would serve as the bedrock for what is now recognized as the UAE’s most dependable tailoring house, as their website claims.
Typically, businesses can not stay put and survive on history alone! However, this kind of history could be gold dust for bespoke tailors—if guarded by a brainy and equally devoted successor.
Mr. Prakash Parmar adroitly held the keys of a near-boundless vault of sartorial expertise his father embedded in The House of Parmar. However, he didn’t step into the big shoes from the outset.
He worked his way up the corporate and creative ladder—from sourcing to sewing to selling to spreading—before taking charge of everything.
Having spent decades immersed in the inner workings of this tailoring house, he has become a leader adept at better foreseeing the impact of a decision on even the thinnest vein of his business.
Mr. Prakash’s thorough connection with every aspect of his tailoring house is part of what has made his voice resonate in an industry often brimming with artifice and pretense. And then there’s also his unshakeable sense of self that The House of Parmar still has a trustworthy reputation in the trade today.
It’s quite fascinating to dissect the personal style of a master tailor who has perfected the art of deploying even the most delicate sartorial detail on the best (and most complex) fabrics across various styles.
Almost everyone’s style bears a message and holds a purpose. But his (style) is judged to check how good he is at, well, styling. How can one speak about his tailoring prowess without benchmarking it against his style?
So, of course, he can’t put on the shirt fibbing on the top of the pile or the first jacket he can find. Let’s see if we might be lucky enough to glimpse his dressing concepts amidst his busy timetable.
